Most free finance apps fall into one of two camps: limited-feature trials that nag you to upgrade, or ad-supported tools that sell your spending data. Moneybag is intentionally a third category: free forever, premium-feel, no ads. Here's why we believe finance apps should be free — and what trade-offs you should know about.
What you typically lose with free apps
- Heavy in-app advertising
- Data sold to analytics partners
- Limited categories / wallets
- Restricted export formats
- No cloud backup
Moneybag's approach
- Zero ads. Never.
- Zero third-party analytics. Only anonymised crash reports.
- Unlimited wallets, categories, transactions.
- Full cloud sync via your own Firestore tree.
- Full export (JSON backup + PDF/image reports).
- AI advisor included — others charge ৳200–500/month for this alone.
How can it be free?
Dream Group builds Moneybag as a portfolio product — its long-term value to us is brand-building, not direct revenue. Cloud hosting on Firebase is cheap enough at our current scale that we can subsidize it indefinitely from other Dream Group products. If we ever need to monetise, it will be through optional power-user features (multi-account / business tier) — never by charging for the basic experience.
When paid IS worth it
- If you need direct bank auto-import (Money Lover, YNAB).
- If you need investment portfolio modelling (Personal Capital, Wallet).
- If you run a small business with employee/client splits.
For everything else — and definitely for Bangladesh-specific needs — Moneybag is the most capable free option you can install today.
Is there a Moneybag paid tier coming?+
Possibly — for business/multi-user needs. The single-user personal experience stays free always.
What about hidden costs?+
None. No paywalls, no ad-removal fees, no ‘upgrade for the AI’ nag screens.
Does the free tier limit transactions?+
Not at all. Add millions of transactions if you want.
